Arithmetic at an unchanged pace, not a prediction that you can sustain it over a longer race.

Use moving or elapsed time consistently when comparing runs. Decimal minutes and clock time are different formats.

Our methodology ↗

Enter a distance and your time in whole minutes and seconds. The running pace calculator shows average pace in minutes per mile or kilometer, the equivalent pace in the other unit and average speed. Race-distance buttons fill common distances without changing your entered time.

A 30-minute 5K gives 6:00 per kilometer, approximately 9:39 per mile and 10 km/h. At that same pace, 10K would take 1:00:00. This is an arithmetic comparison: a short run does not establish that you can sustain its pace for a marathon.

Use moving time to compare continuous running pace, or elapsed time to include stops consistently. The tool displays clock format, so 6:30 means six minutes and thirty seconds. Entering 6.30 as decimal minutes would describe a different amount of time.

Pace (min/km) = time (minutes) ÷ distance (km)
Speed (km/h) = 60 ÷ pace (min/km)
Same-pace finish time = pace × target distance

A little more clarity.

How do I calculate my running pace?

Divide your run time by distance. For example, 30 minutes divided by 5 km is 6 minutes per kilometer. The calculator performs both mile and kilometer conversions.

What pace is a 30-minute 5K?

Exactly 6:00 per kilometer, or approximately 9:39 per mile. The corresponding average speed is 10 km/h, about 6.21 mph.

Can this predict my marathon time?

It shows the time required if you hold the same average pace for 42.195 km. It does not predict your performance from a shorter effort or adjust for training, fatigue or conditions.

How do I enter a run longer than one hour?

Enter the total number of minutes. For 1 hour 25 minutes 30 seconds, enter 85 in the minutes field and 30 in the seconds field.

Keep exploring.
